What is Strokes Gained anyway?
The measure the PGA Tour has used for years. Instead of just counting strokes, Strokes Gained compares every single shot with what a reference player needs on average from the same lie and distance. The result: one number per area — off the tee, approach, around the green, putting. You do not just see that you shot 88, you see where the strokes went missing.
How long does tracking a round take?
In easy mode, roughly 10 seconds per hole — tap score, putts, fairway, green, done. If you want the full analysis, pro mode tracks every shot with lie and distance; that takes a bit longer but delivers the complete Strokes Gained numbers. You pick the mode per round.
Does the app work without signal on the course?
Yes. Rounds are saved on your device first and sync automatically once you are back online. A dead spot on the 12th costs you no data.
Does Strokes need my location?
Only if you allow it — and purely to show you the closest courses first when picking one. Your location is never stored and never shared. You can decline and still use the app fully.
Is my home course included?
And if it is not, it will be in two minutes: photograph the scorecard and Strokes reads par, length and stroke index automatically. Adding a course by hand works too, including duplicate detection. Two nine-hole loops can be combined into one 18-hole round.
What is free and what costs money?
You track 5 rounds in easy mode for free, including basic statistics — enough to see whether the idea suits you. Strokes+ unlocks unlimited rounds, pro mode, the Strokes Gained drilldowns, the coach insights and the training module. Prices are further up.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. The subscription runs through your App Store account and you cancel it there in two taps — no email, no notice period, no questions. The rounds you have already tracked stay yours.
What happens to my data?
It sits on servers in the EU and is never sold. The AI coach insights can be switched off in settings, and you can delete your account together with every round at any time. Details in the privacy policy.
Does Strokes replace my official handicap?
No. Strokes is an analysis tool, not a handicap system — your official handicap still runs through your club. You enter your handicap in the app yourself and update it when it changes; Strokes does not submit rounds to any federation.
Is there a version for Android?
The Android app is built and being prepared for the Play Store. The moment it is live it will be here — the fastest way to hear about it is @strokes.app on Instagram.
